Some Pieces Of Beauty Advice That You Should Not Follow

When it comes to beauty tips, there are countless opinions that you will come across every day, either in person or on the internet. Think about it: Your siblings, friends, co-workers, and loved ones are always there to come up with so-called beauty shortcuts and hacks. Essentially, it is human instinct to seek affirmation from others, look up to others to seek their opinions about us and our looks. More often than not, couples mostly rely on each other. Each day, they compliment their looks and alter their looks based on the feedback they give to each other. Fair enough! You must have at least one person in your life who you can look up to and get a genuine compliment.

Consequently, these couples use their feedback constructively and improve their looks. Likewise, some seek affirmation from their friends and colleagues. Every day, they ask them about their looks. In turn, they give them certain advice that works for them in the long run.

Nevertheless, these bits of beauty advice are often unsolicited. This means that you are not getting advice from someone who is a professional beautician or has an in-depth knowledge of beauty. Instead, they are mere mortals like us. This is where it becomes problematic. Firstly, getting a negative compliment badly impacts your integrity and self-confidence. For instance, if you get compliments about your dark complexion, you will feel that you are not good enough. As a consequence, you will go home and stare at the mirror for hours, thinking that you are not beautiful enough. Thus, you put these false labels on yourself. In the long run, this badly damages your self-esteem and self-belief.

Apart from low self-esteem, you are also likely to harm your physical health by following that advice. For example, if you feel you are not good enough, you will look for alternatives that will make your physical health vulnerable. Your skin may get affected. Or, you may end up overusing makeup and being careless about your overall well-being.

With that said, it is essential to stay away from negative compliments. Be yourself. You are unique the way you are. No one is here to judge your looks. No external voices should matter if you are comfortable in your body and skin.

Here are some of the commonest bits of beauty advice that you should not follow – regardless of who gives you that advice:

  • Wear More Makeup

One of the commonest beauty advice that almost every girl hears is: Wear more make-up. There are two issues with this advice. Firstly, you feel that you are not good-looking enough. Perhaps your complexion is too dark, or your skin has scars and acne. As you hear this, you lose your self-esteem.

Secondly, if you overwear makeup, it will damage your skin as you age. Thus, think thrice the next time someone asks you to wear more makeup. Sit back and analyze where this advice comes from.
