Are You Obsessed With Celebrities? A New Study Has Some Bad News For You

Celebrity obsession is commonplace – and it has always been. Throughout history, our forefathers and ancestors have looked up to someone who has wide fame, success, or has inspired them one way or the other. Be it for good or bad, this has been the harsh reality for many a millenia.

Despite the advancement in the 21st century, this trend is still prevalent and people are still obsessed with celebrities. After all, it is a human instinct to look up to someone (and get inspired) who is famous, knowledgeable, or wealthy. This is especially true for millennials; we are the generation who are always moved and inspired by someone.

Say More / It is a natural human instinct to be inspired by someone and get obsessed with his fame and success.

Today, kids get inspired by Hollywood stars who play good and bad characters in movies and the same is true for youngsters and older adults too. In turn, they become obsessed with these celebrities.

So, the question is this: Is it bad to be obsessed with celebrities? Well, the answer is twofold. Firstly, if this obsession is driven by positivity, it is a good thing. Of course, if a millennial does well in society because of his celebrity obsession, there is no doubt that it is a good thing. But the second one is quite complicated as it is linked with the psychological phenomenon. And this is what we are going to learn in this article.

Stad Talk / People who are obsessed with A-list celebrities and celebrity gossip tend to be less smart. Finds a new study.
  • What Does Celebrity Obsession Impact?

Since we are concerned with the second part of celebrity obsession, let’s dive deep. A new study finds that people who are obsessed with celebrities are less intelligent than the ones who are not. The study also argues that it is regardless of age, gender, and ethnicity. This means that if you are obsessed with celebrities, you are likely to be less intelligent – regardless of gender, age, or ethnic background.

Pink Villa / A new study from BMC Psychology reveals that celebrity obsession deeply impacts intelligence.

Essentially, the study was based on quantitative research. It included 1500 participants and presented them with a list of vocabulary. Furthermore, the study asked a yes or no questionnaire asking simple questions about celebrities.

Based on the final data, it turned out that those obsessed with celebrities were less competent and less intelligent. “They even could not solve a simple common question,” concludes the study. Likewise, the study also notes that these participants were obsessed with gossip and celebrity stuff. In turn, their cognition was weaker, and they faced trouble in coming up with answers to simple questions.

Another point the study highlights is that they already had preconceived perspectives. That is why they had no creativity and IQ to answer a simple question. Lastly, the study argues that these people can not be competent in practical life either.
